Melik is a patriot that wrote the proclamation that takes place at Laksamana
Maeda’s house. He was a reporter and a personal secretary of Soekarno. He was
born at Yogyakarta, Sleman, on 22 November 1908. He passed away at Jakarta on
27 February 1989. He was married to a

divorced her and married another women. His education was started at Sekolah
Ongko Loro for primary school. His father, Dul Maini, raised his nationalism
since he was a very young boy. His teacher that was from the Netherlands raised
his nationalism too. His father stands up for his own country and opposes the
Dutch. He was the head of the village that they lived in.
The Japanese people created PPKI and
there were a total of 21 members. But
Indonesia added 6 more people without the knowing of the Japanese, and it
includes Sayuti Melik. He was part of the team that kidnapped Soekarno and
Hatta at Rengasdengklok. The point of the kidnapping is so the Japanese people
will not affect them. He was included in "Kelompok Lima" that includes Soekarno, Bung Hatta, Sukarni, dan Achmad Soebarjo.
Later on, they started to create the
proclamation. Soekarno, Hatta, and Ahmad Soebardjo made the concept of the
proclamation at Laksamana Maeda’s house. (Laksamana Maeda or Tadashi Maeda is a
sea officer from Japan. He had let them wrote the proclamation at his house.) He
wrote the whole proclamation at a room in the house as the others watch him do
it while chatting and planning how they are going to announce it.
When the proclamation was done, they
decided not to say it under their names, but under the name of their country, Indonesia. But Sayuti Melik suggested that Soekarno and Bung Hatta should sign on the proclamation paper so they did but under the name of Indonesia. The reason behind this is because they're afraid that the people of Indonesia The
proclamation was announced and was re-announced by a radio station until it spread all over the world but the Dutch haven't heard it and denied the news.
There was actually two versions of the proclamation; the one that Soekarno wrote and the one that Sayuti Melik wrote. But ask you know, they settled with the one that Sayuti Melik typed since its more detail and more official. Some of the spelling of words were also changed, like "Tempoh" to "Tempo", basically like the words we use now but not all of them.
